This collection presents a selection of works created through a 15-year collaboration between composer Germán Toro Pérez and the musicians of PHACE: Petra Ackermann, Mathilde Hoursiangou, Ivana Pristašová-Zaugg, and Roland Schueler. The recording highlights two core tenets of Toro Pérez’s creative philosophy: the emergence of musical structure through the interplay of composition and human perception, and the role of language in framing human experience. Central to the album is Rulfo/voces/ecos, a five-part cycle exemplifying his literary-inspired pieces, where vocal and instrumental textures develop directly from spoken and written text to explore narrative and acoustic space.

Born in Bogotá in 1964, Germán Toro Pérez is a composer, researcher, and educator specializing in electroacoustic and instrumental music. After studying in Bogotá and Vienna under mentors including Erich Urbanner and Karl Heinz Füssl, he developed a diverse catalog spanning orchestral, chamber, electronic, multimedia, and music theater works, including Viaje a Comala (2017). His compositions have featured at premier international festivals performed by leading contemporary groups such as Klangforum Wien and PHACE. A former faculty member at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, Toro Pérez has served since 2007 as Professor of Electroacoustic Composition and Director of the Institute for Computer Music and Sound Technology at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), leading influential research in artistic research and electronic music performance.
