From manuscript to invention presents an imaginative musical journey bridging Romantic heritage with contemporary creativity, reviving historically overlooked compositions alongside new works. At the album's core is 19th-century composer Emilie Mayer, whose long-neglected voice is restored to the Romantic canon through world premiere recordings of her original manuscripts, alongside music by Ferdinand Ries. Rooted in historical performance practice and the improvisatory spirit of 19th-century salon culture, the performers utilize ornamentation, rubato, and spontaneity to bring Mayer's Duet in F Major and Ries's Cello Sonata to life. Interweaving historical source material with newly composed, derivative works, the album creates a dynamic dialogue between interpretation, historical rediscovery, and modern artistic expression.

Italian cellist Giulio Padoin graduated with highest honors from the A. Steffani Conservatory before specializing in early music, historical improvisation, and pedagogy at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg and the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel. Since 2023, he has served as principal cellist for Il Giardino Armonico and Los Elementos Ensemble, collaborating frequently with premier early music groups such as Accademia Bizantina, Café Zimmermann, and Il Pomo d’Oro. A dedicated researcher, Padoin published a critical edition of Giacomo Facco's unreleased cello duets through Madrid's Música Hispana. He currently teaches Baroque Cello at the Civica Scuola di Musica Claudio Abbado in Milan, performing globally on a circa 1710 Carlo Annibale Tononi cello.

Italian pianist Gabriele Lucherini, based in Basel, blends historically informed performance, improvisation, and chamber music. After earning Bachelor and Master of Music degrees with highest honors from the "Arrigo Pedrollo" Conservatory in Vicenza, he completed advanced degrees at the Basel Music Academy and Schola Cantorum Basiliensis under Edoardo Torbianelli, specializing in fortepiano and pedagogy, while continuing piano improvisation studies in Stuttgart. Active internationally since 2009, his repertoire ranges from contemporary projects—such as a 2017 Neos München recording—to historical performance and jazz. An award-winning performer, Lucherini received a 2023 Historical Piano Improvisation scholarship in Perugia and currently teaches in Frick, Magden, and Aarau.
