British pianist Malcolm Binns (born 1936) established a distinguished half-century career as one of the UK’s most versatile keyboard artists. Renowned for his extraordinary repertoire breadth, Binns achieved notable milestones, including giving the 1961 UK premiere of Prokofiev’s Fourth Piano Concerto and becoming the first pianist to record the complete Beethoven piano sonatas on period instruments. Before retiring at age 80, his early legacy was captured across rare vinyl releases and broadcast performances, including Proms appearances under Sir Malcolm Sargent. This celebratory release highlights uniquely preserved BBC concerto recordings from his private archive, along with early premiere recordings of Alkan and Rubinstein and acclaimed Pearl label masters.
