SOMM Recordings’ third collaboration with the vocal ensemble Papagena, Tomorrow is Today: Songs of love, beauty and the passing of time, showcases the group’s eclectic and wide-ranging programming. Exploring love across diverse traditions, the album pairs early polyphony and Monteverdi madrigals with traditional folk melodies from Ukraine, Bulgaria, and India. Classical works by Purcell and Leonora d’Este appear alongside contemporary compositions by Don Macdonald, Caroline Shaw, and Janet Wheeler, whose title track incorporates nature imagery honoring Papagena's avian namesake. Blending medieval rhythms, Italian madrigal styles, and modern harmonies, this collection serves as a vibrant exploration of affection, natural beauty, and impermanence.

Papagena is a unique five-member UK vocal ensemble dedicated to expanding the scope of women's upper-voice repertoire through a genre-spanning blend of classical, folk, medieval, and contemporary music. Established in 2015, the group creates, arranges, and commissions works from diverse composers, performing across prominent UK venues, major festivals, and international stages. Their discography includes the self-released Nuns and Roses (2017) and acclaimed SOMM Recordings releases The Darkest Midnight (2018), a chart-topping Recording of the Month, and Hush! (2020). Featuring sopranos Elizabeth Drury, Imogen Ram-Prasad, and Suzzie Vango alongside altos Shivani Rattan and Sarah Tenant-Flowers, Papagena frequently broadcasts on BBC Radio and Classic FM.
