Conductor Iván Fischer and Channel Classics have released a live recording of Mozart’s Don Giovanni featuring the Budapest Festival Orchestra, captured in October 2025 at Vicenza’s Teatro Olimpico. Led by baritones André Schuen in the title role and Luca Pisaroni as Leporello, this release marks the first installment of an upcoming Mozart opera trilogy. Fischer frames the iconic masterpiece around the fundamental tension between societal order and unchecked rebellion, portraying Don Giovanni as an uninhibited force driven by pure passion and free from moral constraint.
Renowned Hungarian conductor, director, and composer Iván Fischer (b. 1951) studied under Hans Swarowsky and Nikolaus Harnoncourt before co-founding the Budapest Festival Orchestra, transforming it into a globally acclaimed ensemble. Known for blending tradition with innovative performance practice, Fischer has held leadership positions with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin and the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, while frequently guest-conducting institutions like the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Berlin Philharmonic. Through the Iván Fischer Opera Company and initiatives like the Vicenza Opera Festival and European Orchestra Academy, he seamlessly integrates music with theater, earning international honors including France’s Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres and Hungary’s Kossuth Prize.
