Bringing together the piano trios of Alex De Taeye (1898–1952) and Lucie Vellère (1896–1966) creates a captivating dialogue between two contrasting yet complementary voices of twentieth-century Belgian music. Raised in the same cultural climate, De Taeye represents the institutional, academic establishment through his bountiful, controlled post-romantic style, while Vellère embodies a more intimate, clandestine aesthetic defined by inner gentleness and rich harmonic color. Despite these stylistic differences, both works demonstrate a shared commitment to clarity, structural balance, and emotional sensitivity. Set side by side, these exceptional trios offer a illuminating portrait of Belgian classical heritage, seamlessly bridging public tradition and poetic modernity.

Formed in Brussels and named after painter Léon Spilliaert, the Spilliaert Trio features pianist Gauvain de Morant, violinist Jean-Samuel Bez, and cellist Guillaume Lagravière. First Prize winners at the 2017 Svirel Competition in Slovenia, the ensemble regularly performs across France and Belgium, backed by organizations including ProQuartet and Chamber Music for Europe. Dedicated to championing Belgian heritage, the trio includes at least one Belgian work in every concert, uncovering forgotten masterworks alongside established classics. Furthermore, they actively commission and perform contemporary compositions, collaborating closely with prominent modern creators like Benoît Mernier, Jean-Luc Fafchamps, Jacqueline Fontyn, and Nicolas Bacri.
