Star violinist María Dueñas, alongside the Orchestre Métropolitain under Yannick Nézet-Séguin, presents a Deutsche Grammophon live recording featuring Johan Halvorsen’s long-lost Violin Concerto and Chant de la “Veslemøy”. Dedicated to pioneering Canadian violinist Kathleen Parlow and rediscovered among her papers, the concerto forms the dramatic peak of the film Measures for a Funeral, which marks Dueñas’s acting debut. The album pairs Halvorsen’s late-Romantic works with Olivier Alary’s atmospheric score, offering a poignant exploration of memory and artistic legacy tied to Parlow’s life.

Born in Granada in 2002, Spanish violinist and composer María Dueñas rose to international prominence through victories at major competitions, including the 2021 Menuhin Competition. Trained in Dresden, Vienna, and Graz, she maintains a prolific career performing with top global orchestras and conductors. An exclusive Deutsche Grammophon artist, her acclaimed discography includes her debut Beethoven and Beyond (2023), Paganini’s 24 Caprices (2025)—which earned a Gramophone Award—and Homage to Heifetz (2026) alongside Gustavo Dudamel. Also an active composer who writes her own concerto cadenzas, Dueñas performs on fine Guadagnini and Stradivarius instruments loaned by private foundations.
