This album highlights the composer’s early Florentine roots prior to becoming the defining figure of French tragédie lyrique. Before assuming his official role as Jean-Baptiste Lully under Louis XIV, Giovanni Battista Lulli enriched court ballets with Italian Baroque lyricism and the theatrical spirit of the Commedia dell'Arte. In this premiere recording of Lully’s complete Italian repertoire, Jérôme Correas and Les Paladins uncover a vibrant, whimsical facet of the composer’s artistry. The album reveals a deeply personal creative domain that celebrates Lulli’s multifaceted talents as a violinist, guitarist, mime, dancer, and performer.

Founded in 2001 by artistic director Jérôme Correas, the ensemble Les Paladins specializes in the dramatic vocal and instrumental repertoires of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Driven by an emphasis on theatricality and expressive depth, the group collaborates with diverse directors spanning theater, dance, puppetry, and circus arts, performing in configurations ranging from intimate quartets to full classical orchestras. With an extensive discography across prominent labels, Les Paladins are equally committed to cultural mediation and training young artists. As they celebrate their twenty-fifth anniversary in 2026, the ensemble marks the milestone with new stage productions, concert highlights, and an upcoming album release.
