Influenced by his Basque heritage, Maurice Ravel frequently incorporated Hispanic themes into his orchestral and keyboard works. This collection spans notable compositions like Sites auriculaires, originally for two pianos and newly orchestrated by Kenneth Hesketh, and orchestrated movements from Miroirs, including Une barque sur l’océan and the virtuosic Alborada del gracioso. The program also features Ravel’s evocative Jewish vocal settings, marked by the premiere recording of his 1924 orchestration of Chanson hébraïque, alongside the iconic, dance-driven Rapsodie espagnole and the hypnotically crescendoing Boléro. Together, these works highlight Ravel’s masterful orchestration, rhythmic invention, and rich cultural synthesis.
