In her second Naïve album, guitarist Laura Lootens, winner of the 2022 Andrés Segovia Competition, delivers a deeply poetic tribute to Romantic musical sensibility. Departing from the dark themes of her debut, Lootens centers this release around Frédéric Chopin, presenting delicate transcriptions of his works by Jerzy Koenig, Tariq Harb, and Agustín Barrios Mangoré. Her journey extends from Irish composer John Field and Johann Kaspar Mertz’s impassioned Elégie to Sérgio Assad’s Preludios Chopinianos and arrangements of iconic French chansons by Édith Piaf and Jacques Brel. Concluding with Sting’s Shape of My Heart, Lootens balances restraint and incandescent intensity across an evocative repertoire.
Laura Lootens (b. 1999) is an internationally acclaimed classical guitarist who began her studies at fourteen with Franz Halász and quickly distinguished herself as one of the youngest students, and later faculty members, at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich. A prizewinner at major competitions, including First Prize at the 2022 Andrés Segovia International Competition, she has received numerous prestigious awards and scholarships. The 2025/26 season marks major international debuts and tours across Europe, the United States, and Australia. Her critically praised album Diabolico (2025) confirms her reputation for exceptional artistry, color, and dramatic intensity.
