The Ariel Quartet completes its acclaimed Beethoven String Quartet cycle with a landmark three-disc set featuring the composer’s visionary late quartets: Opp. 127, 130, 131, 132, and 135. Regarded as towering masterpieces of chamber music, these works represent Beethoven’s most adventurous and imaginative output. Having performed together since their youth, the quartet draws upon more than two decades of shared musical intuition, deep familiarity, and technical command. Navigating the expansiveness of Op. 127, the dramatic sweep of Op. 131, and the introspective questioning of Op. 135, the ensemble delivers an intensely compelling conclusion to their definitive Beethoven recording project.
Celebrated for over two decades for their virtuosity, fiery performances, and deep musical insight, the Ariel Quartet was founded as teenagers at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance. Winners of the Cleveland Quartet Award, they are Faculty Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music. Highlights include a sold-out Carnegie Hall debut, collaborations with Inon Barnatan and Alisa Weilerstein, and six complete Beethoven quartet cycles performed across the U.S. and Europe. Trained at the New England Conservatory under Walter Levin and Paul Katz, the Quartet has earned major prizes at Banff, Fischoff, and Graz, cementing its international reputation.
