On Pages of a Biography, Gidon Kremer and Kremerata Baltica continue their historic collaboration with ECM’s New Series through works by Baltic composers Georgs Pelēcis, Andrius Žlabys, and Arvo Pärt. Framing the collection are Pärt’s Passacaglia and Darf ich..., which enclose Žlabys’s dedicated Kaleidoscope of Lost Time and Pelēcis’s title concerto, a piece evoking Kremer's shared youth in Riga. Honoring a artistic legacy that began with ECM's seminal Tabula Rasa, this release merges personal memory with contemporary repertoire to inaugurate major 2027 milestones: Kremer’s 80th birthday and the 30th anniversary of Kremerata Baltica.

Born in Riga in 1947, Latvian violinist Gidon Kremer studied under David Oistrakh before launching a distinguished career by winning the Paganini and Tchaikovsky competitions. Renowned for an exceptionally broad repertoire, Kremer is a tireless champion of contemporary Eastern European and Russian composers, establishing a long-standing recording relationship with ECM Records. His profound impact on classical music includes founding the Lockenhaus chamber music festival and the Kremerata Baltica chamber orchestra to support young Baltic musicians. Performing on a 1641 Nicola Amati violin, Kremer's extensive artistic contributions have earned prestigious honors, including the Praemium Imperiale.
