Manchester Camerata's flagship project, Mozart, Made in Manchester, led by Music Director Gábor Takács-Nagy since 2016, has earned widespread acclaim, five-star reviews, international tours, and over three million streams. Celebrated for offering exceptionally vivid interpretations of Mozart's repertoire, the orchestra previously recorded his complete piano concertos with soloist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet and horn concertos with Martin Owen. Continuing this widely praised initiative, Manchester Camerata expands its exploration of the composer's catalog by presenting a selection of Mozart's symphonies and operatic arias, featuring acclaimed Chinese soprano Ying Fang.
Chinese operatic soprano Ying Fang, born in Ningbo in 1987, studied at the Shanghai Conservatory and Juilliard before joining the Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann Young Artist program. A winner of the 2009 China Golden Bell Award, she has performed across premier international venues—including the Met, Paris Opéra, Vienna State Opera, and Salzburg Festival—collaborating with world-renowned conductors. Her repertoire spans iconic operatic roles like Susanna, Pamina, and Ilia alongside major concert works by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and Mahler. Her 2025/26 season featured notable debuts and returns in Houston, Vienna, and Aix-en-Provence, alongside recording Mozart symphonies and arias with the Manchester Camerata for Chandos Records.
Born in 1956 in Budapest, Gábor Takács-Nagy is a highly esteemed figure in Hungarian music, honored with numerous awards including the Liszt Prize, Béla Bartók-Ditta Pásztory Prize, Érdemes Művész award, Prima Primissima Prize, and Hungary’s highest cultural distinction, the Kossuth Prize (2024). A founding member of the Takács Quartet (1975–1992), he later established the Takács Piano Trio and the Mikrokosmos Quartet. He transitioned to conducting in 2003, leading the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra and Manchester Camerata, among others. He has conducted internationally and, since June 2024, serves as Artistic Partner of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra in Minnesota.
