Following their complete recording of Handel’s Concerti grossi, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin turns to Arcangelo Corelli’s Concerti grossi, Op. 6, presenting the first six works of this influential Baroque collection. Corelli, a revered composer and violinist, helped define the concerto grosso form, which inspired later composers like Handel. Though he had explored this form since the 1670s, Corelli published just twelve select concertos near the end of his life. With virtuosic performances by concertmasters Mayumi Hirasaki and Georg Kallweit, the ensemble affirms its status as a leading force in historically informed performance.
Founded in 1982, the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin (Akamus) is one of the world’s leading period-instrument chamber orchestras. Renowned for its dynamic performances, the ensemble appears regularly on top international stages and has held a subscription series at Berlin’s Konzerthaus for over 35 years. Akamus is active in Baroque opera at the Berlin State Opera and often collaborates with conductors like René Jacobs and soloists such as Isabelle Faust. Notable partnerships include long-term work with the RIAS Kammerchor and the dance company Sasha Waltz & Guests. Their acclaimed discography has earned major awards, including a Grammy and Gramophone Award.
