Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana is a powerful, timeless work that fuses primal rhythms, grand choral forces, and vivid melodies to explore themes of fortune, springtime, life’s fleeting nature, and earthly pleasures. Alternating between explosive and tender moments, this “scenic cantata” showcases the dynamic interplay of choir, orchestra, and soloists in a gripping musical experience. This recording is dedicated to soprano Jodie Devos, who passed away in June 2024 at age 35. A foundation in her name now supports emerging artists and promotes opera through inclusive performances, workshops, and outreach, continuing her legacy of artistic excellence and accessibility.
