SOMM Recordings presents Clarinet Concertos, a collection of four engaging works for solo clarinet and wind orchestra featuring acclaimed English clarinettist Peter Cigleris. Renowned for his versatility and expressive artistry, Cigleris performs alongside the Győr Symphonic Band under conductors László Marosi and Ferenc Szabó. The album includes two world-premiere recordings: Concerto Semplice by Hungarian composer Frigyes Hidas, a tonal and classically inspired work, and Concerto for Clarinet and Band by British composer Simon Milton, written specifically with Cigleris in mind to challenge and highlight his lyrical style.

Also featured is American composer David Maslanka’s 2014 Concerto for Clarinet and Wind Orchestra, a substantial two-movement work exploring lamentation and dance in forms reminiscent of toccata and fugue. The album concludes with Satoshi Yagisawa’s popular 2010 Clarinet Concerto, composed in three linked movements and widely celebrated in the wind music repertoire.

This release follows Cigleris’s earlier acclaimed SOMM recordings, including Eclogue – British Chamber Music and Dedication: The Clarinet Chamber Music of Ruth Gipps, both praised by Gramophone for his exceptional interpretations. Clarinet Concertos reaffirms Cigleris’s standing as a champion of both new and underrepresented works for the clarinet.
