In the 18th century, Neapolitan musicians helped shape a musical style that became a common European language, significantly influencing the sophisticated instrumental works of Viennese Classicism. The Neapolitan violin school played a key role in transmitting this style but gradually receded after fulfilling its influence. Rooted in the strong tradition of Neapolitan vocal music, it chose to retreat into its distinct local identity rather than continue contributing to the evolving classical idiom. This cultural insularity—preserving uniqueness while resisting external influences—has long been seen as a defining trait of Neapolitan character.

Gabriele Pro is a rising star among the new generation of Baroque violinists, recognized for his dynamic international career. A graduate with honors in Baroque violin under Enrico Onofri and a musicology degree from the University of Rome “La Sapienza,” he has performed at major festivals and venues across Europe, Asia, and the U.S. He has collaborated with top ensembles such as Le Concert des Nations and Il Giardino Armonico, and worked under renowned conductors like Jordi Savall and Ottavio Dantone. Founder of Ensemble Anima&Corpo, he has recorded acclaimed albums and was appointed Musical Director of the Junges Musikpodium Baroque Biennale 2025–26.
