Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, the second son of Johann Sebastian Bach, bridged the Baroque and Classical eras and was celebrated in his time as “the great Bach.” His three Cello Concertos, written between 1750 and 1753, predate those of Haydn and Boccherini and reveal masterful, idiomatic writing for the cello’s expressive range. Cellist Ditta Rohmann performs these works with the Anima Musicæ Chamber Orchestra, combining historical awareness with personal artistry. Her cadenzas draw directly from Bach’s musical language, occasionally incorporating her voice, while her interpretation reflects study of all three versions—cello, harpsichord, and flute—for a richly informed performance.

Born in Budapest in 1983, cellist Ditta Rohmann is renowned for her versatility as a performer, combining classical mastery with improvisation, world music, dance collaborations, and acting. A student of Miklós Perényi and Ivan Monighetti, she also studied in Boston and Basel, and has worked with artists such as András Schiff, Steven Isserlis, and György Kurtág. Winner of the 2012 Leipzig Bach Competition, she earned acclaim for her Bach recordings on Hungaroton, praised by Gramophone as “definitive.” Active as a soloist and chamber musician, she performs widely, teaches at the Franz Liszt Academy, and explores expressive projects beyond traditional concert settings.
