This album presents an intimate portrait of Erik Satie, exploring both his well-known and lesser-known works. Pianist Guillaume Coppola frames Satie as a complex figure—modest yet provocative, blending antique and oriental influences, mysticism, humor, and cabaret. Highlighting the composer’s personal life, it references his brief, stormy affair with painter Suzanne Valadon, with pieces like Bonjour Biqui, Vexations, and Désespoir agréable reflecting subtle allusions to her. Alongside iconic works such as the Gymnopédies and Gnossiennes, the album includes rare and infrequently recorded compositions, celebrating the richness and whimsical depth of Satie’s oeuvre on the centenary of his death.
