Pianist Alice Sara Ott’s upcoming album features world premiere piano transcriptions of works by late Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson, including pieces from his films and albums Orphée and Englabörn. Though she never met him, Ott immersed herself in his musical world, consulting his friends and colleagues to better understand his creative voice. She describes the project as a personal dialogue with Jóhannsson, revealing new intimacy and clarity in his music when adapted for solo piano. The release will unfold in two digital EPs this year, beginning with one devoted to his film music, followed by the full album next year.

Alice Sara Ott (born August 1, 1988) is a German-Japanese pianist known for her visionary artistry, technical brilliance, and innovative approach to classical music. A former student of Karl-Heinz Kämmerling at the Salzburg Mozarteum, she has won multiple international competitions and recorded for Deutsche Grammophon for over 15 years, achieving more than 500 million streams. In the 2024–25 season, Ott performs with major orchestras including the London Symphony and Bayerischer Rundfunk, and tours internationally with Bryce Dessner’s Piano Concerto. She releases two albums in 2025: John Field’s complete nocturnes and piano works by Jóhann Jóhannsson, the latter recorded in Iceland.
