Euan Moseley’s Piano Topography (2001) is a 20-piece cycle for solo piano that is vivid, witty, and melodically diatonic while remaining technically and interpretively challenging. Each concise “Topograph” explores a distinct musical landscape, balancing melody, rhythm, and color with inventive clarity. First performed by pianist Gusztáv Fenyö, the work offers performers a rewarding blend of virtuosity, nuance, and expressive depth.
Gusztáv Fenyő, one of Scotland’s foremost musicians, is acclaimed for his complete single-composer cycles, including Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier, Beethoven’s 32 sonatas, Chopin’s solo works, and Shostakovich’s 24 Preludes & Fugues. A descendant of violinist Joseph Joachim, he studied in Sydney, London, and Budapest, performing premieres of major contemporary composers. Fenyő has appeared worldwide as a soloist, chamber musician, and concerto performer with orchestras such as the Philharmonia and BBC Scottish. Formerly a lecturer at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, he founded the Scottish Borders summer festival and has made numerous acclaimed recordings for major broadcasters and labels.
