Deutsche Grammophon releases an exclusive album featuring highlights from American pianist Eric Lu’s performances at the 19th International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, where he won First Prize. The live recordings capture Lu’s interpretations, praised for their maturity, subtlety, and exceptional phrasing, described as “pianism of the highest order” by Polish Minister of Culture Marta Cienkowska. Out of over 640 applicants worldwide, Lu, 27, impressed the 17-member jury chaired by Garrick Ohlsson after 15 days of auditions and 102 hours of Chopin’s music. The album was released on CD on November 21st.

Eric Lu (born 1997) is an American pianist praised for his poetic, deeply expressive musicianship—The Daily Telegraph called it “simply astounding.” His early successes include 4th Prize at the 2015 Chopin Competition and the 2017 International German Piano Award. With his breakthrough first prize at the 2018 Leeds International Piano Competition—becoming the first American since Murray Perahia to win—he signed exclusively with Warner Classics. He debuted at the BBC Proms in 2019 and won the 2021 Avery Fisher Career Grant. Having performed with major orchestras worldwide, he graduated from the Curtis Institute and in 2025 won 1st Prize at the XIX Chopin Competition, the second American ever to do so.
