In June 2025, the National Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Artistic Director Krzysztof Urbański, recorded Henryk Mikołaj Górecki’s Symphony No. 3, the Symphony of Sorrowful Songs, featuring soloists Michał Sławecki (countertenor) and sopranos Edyta Krzemień and Anna Federowicz. The sessions took place from June 16–18 at Warsaw’s National Philharmonic Concert Hall. Released on both LP and CD as Górecki 3, this recording presents Urbański’s fresh interpretation of the work’s three movements for soprano and orchestra. It is the first album released under his tenure as Artistic Director, marking a significant contribution to Górecki’s discography.

Krzysztof Urbański, born in 1982 in Pabianice, Poland, is a distinguished conductor and composer. He studied at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw under Antoni Wit and won First Prize at the 2007 Prague Spring International Conducting Competition. Urbański has held leadership roles including Music & Artistic Director of the Warsaw Philharmonic, Chief Conductor of the Berner Symphonieorchester, Music Director of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra (2011–2021), and Chief Conductor of the Trondheim Symphony (2010–2017). He is also Principal Guest Conductor of Orchestra della Svizzera italiana. His guest conducting credits include the Berliner Philharmoniker, London Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, and Chicago Symphony, among others, and he has an acclaimed discography with Alpha Classics, Deutsche Grammophon, and Sony.
