Flutist Julien Beaudiment celebrates Maurice Ravel’s 150th anniversary with a new album that pays tribute to the composer’s rich emotional depth and color. Recorded at the new Antibes Conservatory auditorium and released on the Aparté label, the album features original transcriptions for flute and piano with pianist Célia Oneto-Bensaïd. Seeking to address Ravel’s omission of the flute in his chamber works, Beaudiment reimagines the composer’s music through this expressive duo. The result is a poetic and vibrant collection that captures Ravel’s spirit while revealing the flute’s lyrical and tonal brilliance in fresh, imaginative interpretations.
Julien Beaudiment (b. 1978), former first solo flute of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, currently holds the same position at the Orchestre de l’Opéra National de Lyon under Daniele Rustioni and teaches at the Conservatoire de Rueil-Malmaison and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon. A graduate of the Guildhall School in London and the Paris Conservatory, he has performed worldwide in major venues and with leading orchestras under renowned conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Gustavo Dudamel, and Antonio Pappano. An active soloist and chamber musician, he collaborates widely, records across genres, and teaches internationally at leading academies and conservatories.
Célia Oneto Bensaid (b. 1992), a graduate of the Paris Conservatoire with five first prizes, later earned the Diplôme Supérieur de Concertiste from the École Normale de Musique de Paris. A Yamaha artist supported by major foundations, she performs worldwide in both solo and chamber settings, championing French, American, and contemporary repertoires, with a focus on women composers. She has collaborated with leading orchestras and artists including Renaud Capuçon and Marie-Laure Garnier. Her acclaimed recordings span from Gershwin to Marie Jaëll. Also active in film and theater, she teaches at the Paris Conservatoire (18th arrondissement) and regularly appears on France Musique.
