David Fray is recognized as one of today’s most distinctive French pianists, celebrated for his deep and nuanced interpretations of Bach. His new album builds on L’Enfant oublié (2023), a theatrical project co-created with actress and director Chiara Muti and premiered at his festival L’Offrande musicale, which focuses on disability awareness. The program spans from Rameau to Scarlatti, highlighting lesser-known composers such as Royer, and emphasizes Bach through both original keyboard works and piano transcriptions by Siloti, Kempff, Busoni, and Stradal. It also features the world premiere recording of Bruno Monsaingeon’s piano arrangement of Bach’s Violin Sonata No. 2 in A Minor, BWV 1003: Andante.
Born in 1981, French pianist David Fray is acclaimed for his intellectual depth and expressive artistry. A student of Jacques Rouvier at the Paris Conservatoire, he has earned numerous distinctions, including the Opus Klassik Award for Innovative Concert of the Year (2020), the Echo Klassik Prize for Instrumentalist of the Year, and the BBC Music Magazine’s Newcomer of the Year (2008). Fray performs worldwide with major orchestras and conductors such as Muti, Eschenbach, and Nézet-Séguin, and regularly appears at leading venues including Carnegie Hall and Wigmore Hall. A dedicated interpreter of Bach, his recent projects and recordings focus on the composer’s keyboard and chamber works.
