For over fifteen years, the Freiburger Barockorchester has toured across Germany, from Freiburg to Berlin. In this live-recorded album, they recreate the musical experience of eighteenth-century travel, stopping in Rastatt, Stuttgart, and Eisenach. Alongside familiar works by Telemann and Johann Sebastian Bach, including a double concerto for flute and violin and the Second Brandenburg Concerto, the program highlights lesser-known composers such as Fischer and Kusser, reflecting French influences; Pez, with his Concerto Pastorale, hinting at Italian styles; and Johann Ludwig Bach, J.S. Bach’s admired elder cousin, with his Ouverture. The recording offers a journey through diverse baroque soundscapes.

The Freiburger Barockorchester (FBO), founded in 1987 by students of the Freiburg College of Music, is a leading ensemble in historic performance practice with over 30 years of international presence. Known for playing on period instruments, it performs worldwide at major venues such as the Berlin Philharmonie, London’s Wigmore Hall, and the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, and is a regular at festivals including Salzburg, Tanglewood, and Innsbruck. Its repertoire spans Baroque and Classical works, with occasional Romantic pieces by Mendelssohn and Schumann, usually performed without a conductor. Artistic directors Gottfried von der Goltz and Kristian Bezuidenhout lead the orchestra alongside collaborations with renowned soloists and conductors. The FBO’s recordings have received numerous awards, including Echo Klassik prizes, Grammy nominations, and the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik.
