Mozart: Viennese Quartets concludes the Engegård Quartet’s complete Mozart cycle, featuring the six quartets K.168–173 composed in Vienna in 1773. These works capture Mozart’s youthful creativity, marked by growing mastery of form, texture, and expressive range. Moving from introspection to exuberance, the quartets showcase both elegance and emotional daring. The Engegård Quartet’s performance combines stylistic precision with warmth and unity, revealing the music’s subtle shifts in character and structure. This final volume crowns their acclaimed journey through Mozart’s quartets, offering a vibrant tribute to his enduring genius in chamber music.

Formed in 2005 under Lofoten’s midnight sun, the Engegård Quartet is one of Norway’s leading ensembles, acclaimed for its vibrant interpretations and strong Nordic identity. Their recordings have earned major awards, including Pizzicato’s Supersonic Award, and international praise for their performances of Grieg, Sibelius, and Mozart. The quartet performs widely across Europe and South America and appears at major festivals such as Delft, SoNoRo, and Heidelberg. Dedicated to expanding the quartet repertoire, they have commissioned works from Norwegian and international composers and collaborated with artists like Leif Ove Andsnes and Sir András Schiff. They also champion Norwegian folk traditions and host Oslo’s annual 1-2-3 Festival.
