This volume of the Complete Piano Music edition highlights Liszt’s march transcriptions, a genre he explored throughout his career to reflect national identity and honor local cultures during performances. These works, frequently featured in his recitals, combine Hungarian musical elements—such as native scales and cimbalom-inspired textures—with Liszt’s characteristic Romantic virtuosity and flamboyant expression.

Canadian pianist Paul Williamson, winner of the 2025 Sylva Gelber Music Foundation Award, is recognized as one of the country’s emerging artists. He has earned top prizes at numerous national and international competitions, including the Canadian National Music Festival and the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers’ Association Piano Competition. Trained at the University of Manitoba and the Colburn School, he is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts at Northwestern University. An advocate for contemporary music, Williamson performs new works and collaborates with living composers. He has appeared at major festivals, recorded albums of Liszt and Canadian composer Tristan Zaba, and is also active as a dedicated teacher and mentor.
