Forgive Us For underscores the urgency of Kronos Quartet’s ongoing search for music that confronts the human condition in its full spectrum of light and darkness, hope and despair, truth and illusion. This pursuit has carried the ensemble far beyond the string quartet’s Mitteleuropean origins to diverse cultural landscapes. The project draws on works connected to Iceland, Palestine, and Ukraine, reflecting the voices and experiences of composers Hildur Guðnadóttir, Rim Banna, and Mariana Sadovska. Together, these perspectives expand the quartet’s expressive reach while affirming music’s power to engage directly and unflinchingly with contemporary human realities.

The Kronos Quartet is a pioneering, Grammy-winning American string quartet from San Francisco, active since 1973 and widely credited with redefining the possibilities of the genre. Over more than five decades, the ensemble has commissioned hundreds of new works, collaborated across musical cultures and styles, and explored repertoires ranging from contemporary classical to global traditions. Led by violinist David Harrington, the quartet has released more than 45 recordings and remains deeply committed to education and artistic outreach. Through constant experimentation and collaboration, the Kronos Quartet has reshaped the string quartet into a living, evolving art form for the 21st century.
