This recital explores lesser-known corners of Soviet piano music, centered on Dmitri Shostakovich and his circle. Beyond the famous 24 Preludes and Fugues, it highlights early and rare works, including Shostakovich’s Eight Preludes, Op. 2, revealing his youthful command of pianistic style, and a late contribution to a collaborative set of Glinka variations. Works by composers close to him broaden the perspective: Weinberg’s early Berceuse and powerful Second Piano Sonata, Sviridov’s fierce wartime Sonata, and Bunin’s youthful Sonatina. Together, these pieces form a vivid portrait of mid-century Soviet musical culture and individuality.
