Anton Bruckner (1824–1896) was an Austrian composer and organist renowned for his symphonies and sacred music, including Masses, the Te Deum, and motets. His symphonies, notable for their expansive scale, rich harmonies, and polyphonic complexity, represent the culmination of Austro-German Romanticism and contributed to musical radicalism through bold dissonance and modulation. Personally modest and deeply respectful of figures such as Wagner, Bruckner was highly self-critical and frequently revised his works, resulting in multiple versions. Though his music attracted criticism during his lifetime, particularly for its length and repetition, it profoundly influenced later composers, most notably Gustav Mahler.
Christian Thielemann (b. 1959) is a distinguished German conductor renowned for his leadership of major European orchestras and opera houses. He served as Principal Conductor of the Staatskapelle Dresden from 2012 to 2024 and began as General Music Director of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin in the 2024–25 season. Previously, he held prominent posts in Berlin, Munich, and Nuremberg, and was Artistic Director of the Salzburg Easter Festival and Music Director at Bayreuth. A frequent collaborator with the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonics, he has conducted multiple New Year’s Concerts in Vienna. Thielemann has received numerous international honors, awards, and honorary titles recognizing his artistic achievements and extensive discography.
