Inspired by the expansive soundscapes of the New World, Antonín Dvořák’s Cello Concerto embodies a boundless artistic vision shaped by cultural exchange and lyrical depth. Cellist Raphaël Jouan, an intrepid and inquisitive musician, delivers a vibrant and heartfelt interpretation, shaping each phrase with expressive nuance. Joined by the Orchestre National de Metz Grand Est, he highlights the concerto’s rich contrasts, melodic generosity, and emotional breadth. This performance underscores both the diversity of Dvořák’s influences and the universal human spirit at the heart of his music, affirming its enduring resonance across borders and generations.

Born in 1993, Raphaël Jouan is a versatile and inquisitive cellist whose career spans chamber music, concerto repertoire, and improvisation, performing in both prestigious venues and intimate settings. He has appeared at leading halls and festivals in France and abroad and is artist-in-residence at the Cité musicale-Metz. A dedicated chamber musician, he founded Trio Hélios in 2014, earning multiple international awards. Trained in Metz, Boulogne-Billancourt, Paris, and Berlin, he further refined his artistry in Gautier Capuçon’s Excellence Class. For this recording, Jouan performs on a Matteo Goffriller cello (c.1700–1710) and a 1930 Lamy Fils bow, generously on loan from CANIMEX INC.
