An English Violin presents a musical portrait of England at the turn of the twentieth century, blending grandeur with intimacy through a refined and expressive repertoire. At the center of the album is the rediscovery of a violin concerto by Guirne Creith, revealed with lyricism and passion, alongside works by Edward Elgar, Rebecca Clarke, and William Walton. Geneviève Laurenceau is joined by the Orchestre de Picardie under the direction of David Niemann, with Jean-Frédéric Neuburger contributing chamber-like sensitivity. Together, they offer a cohesive and evocative interpretation of this distinctive British program.

Born in Strasbourg, Geneviève Laurenceau began playing the violin at the age of three and was shaped by mentors representing major European violin traditions, including Wolfgang Marschner, Zakhar Bron, and Jean-Jacques Kantorow. After winning several international prizes, she received the Grand Prize of the Maurice Ravel Academy in 2001 and Le Violon de l’Adami in 2002. She has since appeared as a soloist with leading orchestras across Europe and served as concertmaster of the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse from 2007 to 2017. An active chamber musician and advocate for contemporary music, she is also a festival director and dedicated educator.
