Julien Martineau celebrates the enduring artistry of the mandolin—an instrument admired by composers from Antonio Vivaldi to Igor Stravinsky and even Led Zeppelin. Renowned for his refined tone and expressive musicianship, Martineau captivates audiences worldwide. His latest album, The Fifth Season, features concertos by Corentin Apparailly and Karol Beffa, blending virtuosity with emotional depth. More than a recording, the project reaffirms the mandolin’s place in the classical repertoire while opening new artistic perspectives for this distinctive instrument.

Julien Martineau (born 1978) is a leading contemporary mandolinist dedicated to expanding and promoting his instrument’s repertoire. Awarded the Giuseppe Anedda Prize at the 1998 Varazze International Competition at age nineteen, he has performed as a soloist with major orchestras, including the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. Martineau commissions new works, records extensively, and serves as Honorary Director of the Classical Mandolin Society of America. Founder and artistic director of the Festival de Toulouse, he was named a Knight of Arts and Letters in 2024. He also teaches at the Conservatoire de Toulouse and collaborates on innovative instrument design.
