This album presents a compelling pairing of Romantic keyboard masters, performed by Latvian pianist Georgijs Osokins, whose international reputation has steadily grown. Recorded between 2016 and 2018, the releases drew strong critical acclaim, with praise for his powerful, lucid interpretation of Rachmaninoff’s Variations on a Theme of Chopin and his stylistic affinity with the composer’s idiom. Following his prize-winning appearance at the 2015 Chopin Competition in Warsaw, Osokins offered bold yet coherent readings of Chopin’s late works, from the Third Piano Sonata to the Polonaise-Fantaisie. Subsequent major awards and appearances have confirmed the artistry and insight evident throughout these performances.
Born in Riga in 1995 to a family of pianists, Georgijs Osokins studied with his father, later training at Juilliard with Sergei Babayan and in Düsseldorf with Georg Friedrich Schenck, while also receiving guidance from artists like Daniel Barenboim and Gidon Kremer. He rose to fame at 19 as a finalist in the 2015 Chopin Competition, leading to invitations from major venues worldwide. Celebrated for his individuality, rich sound, and freedom of expression, Osokins performs a wide repertoire from Bach to Pärt. A noted arranger and chamber musician, he collaborates frequently with Gidon Kremer. In 2025, he became the first Baltic pianist signed exclusively to Deutsche Grammophon.
