Friedrich Wilhelm Schnurr (January 21, 1929 – June 14, 2017) was a German pianist, professor, and university rector. He began piano studies at age seven and later trained at the Northwest German Music Academy in Detmold under Hans Richter-Haaser, graduating with distinction in 1953. He also attended masterclasses with Alfred Cortot and Wilhelm Kempff. Schnurr performed internationally across Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Asia, particularly in Japan. From 1957, he taught at the Detmold University of Music, serving as professor, deputy director, and rector from 1982 to 1993. He continued teaching masterclasses after retiring in 1997.
