Conductor Keri-Lynn Wilson and the Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra present a live recording pairing Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 with Maxim Kolomiiets’ Suite from The Mothers of Kherson, marking the fourth anniversary of Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Founded by Wilson as a cultural response to the war, the orchestra unites leading Ukrainian musicians from domestic ensembles, displaced artists, and members of European orchestras. Captured in Vilnius during the ensemble’s 2025 “Resilience” tour, the recording is dedicated to the Ukrainian people and their struggle. Beethoven’s Fifth, long associated with defiance and triumph over adversity, serves here as a powerful symbol of resistance and hope.

Maxim Kolomiiets (born 1981, Kyiv) is a Ukrainian composer and oboist educated at the National Music Academy of Ukraine and the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln. A prizewinner at several international competitions, he has participated in major contemporary music academies and festivals and taught composition in Lviv. Kolomiiets is the author of two operas and was commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera’s Lincoln Center New Works Program to compose an opera about abducted Ukrainian children. His works have been performed by leading ensembles across Europe and the United States. Also active in electronic music under the name InnerLicht, he combines composition, performance, and artistic direction within Ukraine’s contemporary music scene.

Keri-Lynn Wilson (born May 17, 1967) is a Canadian conductor with an international career spanning leading symphony orchestras and opera houses. Raised in Winnipeg, she studied at Juilliard, assisted Claudio Abbado at the Salzburg Festival, and became Associate Conductor of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. She has conducted major ensembles including the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Toronto Symphony, and has appeared at prominent opera houses such as the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, and Wiener Staatsoper. Wilson is the founder of the Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra and was appointed Music Director of Kyiv Camerata in 2024, further strengthening her artistic ties to Ukraine.
