The second album in the Amaryllis Quartet’s Face2Face series continues the ensemble’s concept of presenting music history as an active dialogue between eras. Marking its 20th anniversary, the quartet pairs works by Ludwig van Beethoven with those of Swiss composer Rudolf Kelterborn (1931–2021), a versatile and exploratory musical figure of the 20th century. Kelterborn’s stylistically open approach, embracing influences from the Second Viennese School to postmodernism, is exemplified in his Sixth String Quartet (2001). Performed with sensitivity, the work engages Beethoven’s legacy through energetic structure, innovative techniques, and a dynamic, expressive musical discourse.
The Amaryllis Quartet began its international career in 2011 following studies with Walter Levin, the Alban Berg Quartet, and Günter Pichler. Early success included prizes at the Premio Paolo Borciani and the International Chamber Music Competition in Melbourne. In 2012, the ensemble received an ECHO Klassik Award for its debut recording White. Renowned for its exploration of new sounds, the quartet has commissioned and premiered works by leading contemporary composers. It regularly performs at major international venues and festivals and maintains close artistic collaborations with prominent soloists and composers, reflecting its strong commitment to musical dialogue and innovation
