Misha Cvijović’s portrait album Vida brings together layered meanings—life, vision, healing, and myth—reflecting the composer’s multifaceted musical language. Representing a younger generation from the former Yugoslavia, Cvijović draws on characteristic Balkan 7/8 rhythms, shaping them into a vibrant, kaleidoscopic sound world highlighted by Marco Blaauw’s agile trumpet solos. The album moves beyond classical conventions, embracing formal experimentation and improvisation, notably in Penumbra, which expands the ensemble with accordion, baritone saxophone, and electric guitar. Iktsuarpok and Incandescent explore electronic and electro-acoustic textures. Five works were newly recorded with Ensemble Musikfabrik and Deutschlandfunk Kultur, alongside performances by the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin under Enno Poppe, Sebastian Berweck, and Trio Splitsignals Berlin.

Misha Cvijović, born in Belgrade and based in Berlin, is a composer, musical director, pianist, synthesizer performer, and sound artist whose work spans instrumental, orchestral, electroacoustic, operatic, theatrical, and film contexts. Educated in Novi Sad, Belgrade, and at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin, she has developed a versatile musical language shaped by ongoing experimentation and international masterclasses. Her music has been presented at major contemporary festivals and performed by leading ensembles and orchestras across Europe, with frequent radio broadcasts. Active in opera and theatre production, she has collaborated with numerous directors. A recipient of significant grants and awards, she also joined the Berlin University of the Arts as a music theatre lecturer in 2024.
