Behlcanto! is an imaginative new album by tenor Daniel Behle and the Alliage Quintett that reimagines iconic tenor arias through an unconventional ensemble of four saxophones and piano. The programme brings together a distinguished selection of operatic highlights, including works by Offenbach, Bizet, Gounod, Donizetti, Puccini, Rossini, Verdi, Ponchielli, and Halévy. Familiar arias such as Je crois entendre encore, Salut! demeure chaste et pure, Ah! mes amis, and Nessun dorma—here sung in German—retain their expressive power while gaining fresh colour through inventive arrangements. The album culminates in a playful reinterpretation of ’O sole mio, showcasing both virtuosity and stylistic flair.

Daniel Behle (b. 1974, Hamburg) is a German operatic tenor and composer with an international career spanning opera, concert, and recording. Trained in trombone, composition, and voice, he completed his studies with distinction and has since appeared at leading opera houses and festivals including the Wiener Staatsoper, La Scala, Bayreuth, and the Salzburg Festival. He collaborates regularly with major orchestras and conductors worldwide and is an acclaimed interpreter of both operatic and lieder repertoire. Alongside his singing career, Behle is increasingly active as a composer, with successful operetta projects and widely praised recordings.

The Alliage Quintett is an award-winning ensemble uniting four saxophones and piano, renowned for a distinctive sound that combines orchestral richness with the expressive clarity of chamber music. Founded by Daniel Gauthier, Germany’s first professor of classical saxophone, the group brings together leading saxophonists and pianist Jang Eun Bae. Its repertoire spans sensitively arranged masterpieces from all musical eras, balancing artistic sophistication with broad audience appeal. Performing internationally at major venues and festivals, the ensemble has released seven acclaimed albums and received two Echo Klassik awards, establishing itself as a leading force in innovative chamber music performance.
