When film composers engage with classical music, they often exchange constraint for expressive freedom. In Metamorfosi di Violetta, Ennio Morricone examines the psychological disintegration of La Traviata’s heroine with striking dramatic precision. Tigran Mansurian’s Agnus Dei moves between chant-like lyricism and dissonance, conveying a sense of unresolved mourning. John Corigliano’s Soliloquy adopts a more introspective tone, transforming personal loss into restrained luminosity. Although Bernard Herrmann rarely pursued classical abstraction, his Souvenir du voyage—imbued with the cinematic sensitivity familiar from his iconic film scores—emerges as the program’s culminating highlight, blending nostalgia with emotional depth.

Founded in 2015, the Roeland Hendrikx Ensemble specializes in the chamber repertoire for clarinet, piano, and strings, performing in configurations ranging from trio to sextet. Although bearing Roeland's name, the ensemble reflects a collaborative ethos, uniting carefully selected musicians distinguished by technical mastery, expressive depth, and significant experience in other ensembles. As a stable, long-term collective, it functions as an artistic laboratory, fostering deep musical synergy rather than ad hoc collaboration.
