Head Space: Candlelight is the first EP in The King’s Singers’ Head Space series, designed to link choral music with calmness and reflection. Inspired by the Catholic night service of compline, the programme centres on plainchant, including In manus tuas Domine and Salva nos Domine vigilantes, shaped by a breath-led, unhurried approach. Alongside these are wordless “Songs” by Orlando Gibbons, contemporary works by Anna Thorvaldsdottir, Judith Bingham, and Arvo Pärt, and John Cage’s 4’33”. The EP concludes with Robert Parsons’ Ave Maria and Edvard Grieg’s Ave Maris Stella, sustaining a deeply contemplative atmosphere.

The King’s Singers are an internationally renowned a cappella ensemble, celebrated for over 55 years for their exceptional technique, musicianship, and stylistic versatility. Founded in 1968 by six former choral scholars from King’s College, Cambridge, the group established its enduring six-voice formation and has since set a benchmark in vocal ensemble performance. Their extensive discography has earned major accolades, including Grammy and Emmy Awards and recognition in Gramophone’s Hall of Fame. Committed to expanding the choral repertoire, they have commissioned more than 300 new works and remain active in education and outreach through a global programme of performances and initiatives.
