Irish Chamber Orchestra and Jörg Widmann present Invitation, an album celebrating their decade-long artistic partnership and marking the ensemble’s first release with PENTATONE. Featuring works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Felix Mendelssohn, and Robert Schumann, the recording showcases the orchestra’s expressive range, from the contrapuntal intensity of Mozart’s C minor Serenade to the buoyant vitality of Mendelssohn’s String Symphony No. 8 and the exuberant lyricism of Schumann’s Overture, Scherzo and Finale. Widmann’s incisive direction highlights dynamic contrasts, rich textures, and vibrant musical dialogue throughout.

Jörg Widmann (born 1973, Munich) is an internationally acclaimed clarinettist, composer, and conductor. Trained in Munich and New York, with formative studies under Hans Werner Henze and Wolfgang Rihm, he has built a multifaceted career spanning chamber music, solo performance, and large-scale composition. A former Principal Conductor of the Irish Chamber Orchestra and now Associated Conductor of the Münchner Kammerorchester and Principal Guest Conductor of the NDR Radiophilharmonie, Widmann is especially renowned for his string quartets and orchestral cycles, including Lied, Chor, and Messe. His operas, notably Babylon, and the oratorio ARCHE further affirm his stature. Widmann has received numerous major international awards and residencies.
