This fourth and final volume dedicated to the violin and piano sonatas of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart traces a compelling artistic journey, from the luminous ‘Palatine’ Sonatas to the more profound and structurally complex Viennese masterpieces. Across these works, Mozart redefines and elevates the genre, expanding its expressive and aesthetic scope. The recording has been praised for its warmth and sensitivity, with BBC Music Magazine noting that both performers respond to the distinctive sound worlds of the three sonatas with interpretations marked by subtlety, flexibility, and refined musical insight.
Isabelle Faust (born 1972) is internationally acclaimed for interpretations that combine historical awareness with contemporary insight. After early victories at the Leopold Mozart and Paganini competitions, she performed with leading orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra, and Chamber Orchestra of Europe, collaborating with conductors such as Andris Nelsons and Sir Simon Rattle. Her repertoire spans from Baroque to contemporary premieres, reflecting a strong commitment to new music. A distinguished chamber musician and recording artist, Faust has received numerous major awards for recordings ranging from Bach’s solo works to concertos by Beethoven, Berg, Ligeti, and Britten.
Alexander Melnikov (born 1973) studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Lev Naumov and was strongly influenced by an early association with Sviatoslav Richter. Prizewinner at major competitions in Zwickau and Brussels, he is renowned for imaginative programming and a longstanding commitment to historically informed performance. Melnikov appears with leading orchestras and period ensembles, collaborating with prominent conductors and chamber partners, notably Isabelle Faust and Jean-Guihen Queyras. His extensive, award-winning discography ranges from Bach and Beethoven to Shostakovich and Prokofiev. The 2025/26 season includes major orchestral engagements, chamber tours, and international recitals across Europe and Asia.
