Domenico Cimarosa (1749–1801), a prominent composer of the Neapolitan School, was among the most frequently performed opera composers before the rise of Rossini, producing more than sixty operas and earning widespread recognition across Europe, including an appointment at the Russian Court in St Petersburg. His opera L’Italiana in Londra is a refined comic intermezzo that demonstrates his skill in portraying humorous situations and vivid characters. The work cleverly satirizes cultural stereotypes and social behaviors, many of which remain recognizable today. Through its lively music, wit, and theatrical charm, the opera exemplifies Cimarosa’s mastery of comic opera and his lasting contribution to eighteenth-century operatic tradition.

Leo Hussain (born 1978) is a British conductor known for his wide-ranging repertoire and acclaimed interpretations of Mozart, the Second Viennese School, and twentieth-century works. Educated at Cambridge University and the Royal Academy of Music, he first gained international recognition at the Salzburg Festival, assisting leading conductors and working with major orchestras. Hussain has served as Music Director of the Opéra de Rouen and the Salzburg Landestheater and is currently Principal Guest Conductor of the George Enescu Philharmonic. He has conducted at prominent opera houses and festivals worldwide, including the Royal Opera House, Bayerische Staatsoper, and Glyndebourne Festival, as well as with numerous major orchestras across Europe, Asia, and Australia.
