Organist Iain Quinn teams up with conductor Kenneth Woods and the English Symphony Orchestra and English String Orchestra for a new album on ESO Records, featuring three major 20th-century works for organ and orchestra. The recording includes Francis Poulenc’s dramatic Concerto in G Minor for Organ, Strings and Timpani, Paul Hindemith’s inventive Kammermusik No. 7, and Daniel Pinkham’s rarely performed organ and string sonatas. Building on Quinn’s March 2025 performance of the Poulenc and Pinkham pieces, the album—produced by Phil Rowlands and engineered by James Walsh—highlights Quinn’s virtuosity and Woods’ expert orchestral leadership, offering a compelling exploration of this distinctive repertoire.

Born in Cardiff, Wales, in 1973, Iain Quinn is a distinguished organist, choral director, and composer. He studied with Nicolas Kynaston, Thomas Murray, William Porter, and John Weaver, and at age fourteen became the youngest Director of Music at St Michael’s Theological College, Llandaff. After teaching at Blackheath Conservatory, he moved to the U.S. in 1994 for advanced studies at Juilliard, Hartt School (BM summa cum laude), and Yale University (MM), later serving as Director of Cathedral Music and Organist at St John’s Cathedral, Albuquerque. Quinn has performed internationally, premiered works dedicated to him, and made ten recordings. His compositions for choir and organ are widely performed and have been featured at major festivals. Recognized with awards from The Prince’s Trust, ASCAP, and multiple fellowships, he has held leadership positions at Durham University, including Director of Music and Chamber Choir Director, and earned a PhD in musicology.
