Christoph Eschenbach is a German pianist and conductor, known for his versatility and expressive musicality. Born on February 20, 1940, in Breslau (now Wrocław, Poland), Eschenbach began his musical education as a pianist before transitioning to conducting. He gained recognition as a young pianist, performing internationally before establishing a distinguished career as a conductor. Eschenbach has held prominent positions with major orchestras, including music director of the Orchestre de Paris and the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C. His conducting repertoire spans a wide range of composers, and he is particularly known for his interpretations of German and Austrian repertoire. Eschenbach has also made numerous recordings and is highly regarded for his thoughtful, nuanced approach to both the piano and conducting.
