In this fourth volume dedicated to the complete piano works of José Antonio Bottiroli, pianist Fabio Banegas—his protégé and foremost advocate—offers a comprehensive and insightful exploration of the composer’s output. The program spans a wide range of formats, including works for piano solo, duo, chamber ensemble, and orchestra. Symphonic Impressions highlights both lyricism and virtuosity, while other pieces emphasize Bottiroli’s contrapuntal skill, inventive reworking of earlier material, and incorporation of Argentine folk elements such as the chamamé. Collectively, these works form a deeply personal musical narrative reflecting the composer’s life and artistic evolution.

José Antonio Bottiroli (1920–1990) was an Argentine composer, poet, and music educator who graduated from the National University of the Littoral in 1948, earning the Rotary Club Award for outstanding achievement in music. He studied piano, composition, harmony, and counterpoint under prominent mentors, most notably Nicolás Alfredo Alessio, who became a key collaborator and friend. Bottiroli’s compositional style diverged from both Argentine folkloric traditions and the modernist trends of his contemporaries, instead embracing the expressive potential of Romantic short forms. His music is marked by intense subjectivity, intimate expression, and a reflection of his personal life experiences, offering a distinctive voice within 20th-century Argentine classical music.

Fabio Banegas is an Argentine-American classical pianist, music publisher, and acclaimed interpreter, recognized with a Global Music Award for “Outstanding Achievement” and nominated for the Premios de la Academia de la Música de España. A prizewinner of the Mozarteum Santa Fe competition and the Redfield Award, he has performed internationally with ensembles including the National Philharmonic of Ukraine, Anima Musicæ Chamber Orchestra, and the Orquesta Sinfónica Municipal de San Martín. Banegas’s discography, released on Naxos, Grand Piano, and Guild Music, features world premieres and complete works of composers such as José Antonio Bottiroli, Eduardo Grau, and Jacobo Ficher. He also contributes as a music publisher and has appeared in film and television performances.
