Eduard Melkus (b. 1928) is an Austrian violinist, conductor, and educator born in Baden bei Wien. He studied violin at the Vienna Academy of Music and musicology at the University of Vienna, later refining his training in Paris, Zürich, and Winterthur. After performing with Swiss orchestras, he became a professor at the Vienna Hochschule für Musik in 1958 and toured internationally as a soloist. In 1965, he founded the Capella Academica of Vienna, which he led in historically informed performances spanning the Renaissance to early Classical repertoire.
Paul Badura-Skoda (1927–2019) was a leading Austrian pianist renowned for his global concert career, extensive recordings, and deep musical insight. Trained at the Vienna Conservatory, he gained early recognition after winning a major Austrian competition and studying with Edwin Fischer. His career was launched internationally through support from Wilhelm Furtwängler and Herbert von Karajan. Celebrated for collaborations with prominent conductors and an extensive discography, he was also a pioneer in historically informed performance, excelling on both modern and period instruments with exceptional interpretive depth.
