Alessandro Longo (1864–1945) was an Italian composer, pianist, and musicologist best known for his editions of Scarlatti’s keyboard works, though his own music reflects a distinctive late-Romantic voice. His style combines lyrical expressiveness with classical clarity and Italian melodic elegance, often featuring a singing violin line supported by rich piano harmonies. Longo favored nuance over virtuosity, emphasizing balance and interaction between instruments. His output includes refined salon pieces and character works, such as the Romanza, alongside larger multi-movement compositions that reveal careful structural design, subtle variation, and a talent for conveying emotional depth within concise forms.

The Grand Duo Italiano, featuring violinist Mauro Tortorelli and pianist Angela Meluso, is internationally recognized for its commitment to rediscovering and promoting overlooked musical repertoire. Awarded the Mediterranean Prize in 2011, the duo has performed in over 20 countries, appearing in major concert venues worldwide. For more than a decade, they have focused on reviving neglected works, contributing valuable insights to music history through research and performance. Their recordings include world premieres of compositions by lesser-known Italian composers, as well as projects dedicated to French repertoire. Both artists are also active educators, serving as professors at the Cosenza Conservatory.
